A new way to calm cravings?
Think all those holiday sweets will lead to a belly that rivals St. Nick’s? Not necessarily. According to a recent study, today’s temptations give your willpower a workout—so that you may be better able to resist tomorrow’s. The researchers put college students through three tests and found that when the students were offered a bowl of candy (rather than pictures or smells of the treats), they were better able to resist snacking when the candy was presented a second time. The bottom line: Being enticed repeatedly is better for you than banning all treats from your house. We say if your holidays are anything like ours, it’s the perfect time to try out the theory.
