Today I'm planning to talk to a possible source and at least make an appointment with her.
Hi- I'm back again- my adventure is to try to do something special, to reach out and touch somebody positively every day- to do those things that I think of but never quite put into action. So here's what I have - for March 28 -I did some family phone calls, just keeping touch, just catching up to get everybody caught up with Easter plans. March 29 - I took care of mom's hospital discharge instructions - I went over her drugs and made sure she
and dad knew what was going on and what had changed. March 30 - I talked over a problem with one of my co-workers. March 31- I called a friend to say Happy Birthday and to let them know I remembered their birthday - that one meant a lot because I hadn't talked to them for a while. I'm hoping to have some new great ideas - sometimes these things seem so small, but I know that showing you care really matters!

Wow, I can't believe it's been a whole week since I typed these in - but I have been thinking about them every day! So here's the update. March 20- I was at work a long day, so I just did my usual healthy snack idea- eventually I plan to get everyone at work on board with the healthy stuff- that's not an easy goal- especially with young people who don't understand their health is so valuable! March 21 - I made another one of those special phone calls- I invited a friend on vacation with me - she's got a lot going on in her life- unfortunately she can't go, but she still liked the invitation - we'll have to do it another time. March 22 - I made a call to a friend just to say hi - it's always nice to know somebody is paying attention to you. March 23 - I wrote a real letter to a friend - sometimes it's nice to know you matter to somebody. March 24 - I took the time to make my husband his coffee before I went to work so it would be ready when he got home from his morning walk - sometimes the smallest of things do show you care - even though he accused me of making it for myself! (He was just kidding) March 25 - a bit of a rough day- my dad called at work to let me know he was taking mom to the ER and I could sense the fear in his voice so I met him there- she's always had issues with her heart and is now in congestive heart failure, but doing well and is stable- I was glad I could be there- for both of them. March 26- I surprised a co-worker with a birthday lottery ticket before I left for the day- I'm still not sure if she won anything on it. March 27- my son turned 17 ( I feel old just typing that! ) and he's been wanting to go see a Penguins Hockey game but tickets are sold out so I managed to surprise him by buying them off of a guy I know. Now he just has to wait to see who wins the battle over the second seat- either his cousin Tiffany or her husband, Todd. He let the decision up to them! Today is March 28 - I have yet to do anything to write about but I have a few ideas - it amazes me how I can now make sure I do something, instead of just thinking about getting around to it. Thanks for your positive comments, Amie, and I think I'll start a blog with you on the weight-loss side since I've been encouraged by your writings!
I'm still on my adventure to do a little something to make somebody's day each and every day until the end of the year. I find that a lot of the things I am doing are things that in the past I may have thought about doing and then either forgot about or just put off til another day - but now that I need something for each and every day, I somehow just do them. It is amazing how the mind works- it always has good intentions, but putting those into action is somehow the missing link. This diary is helping me to find that link - thanks to Spry Living! So for March 18- I dropped off a birthday card with a couple of instant lottery tickets to a co-worker; she was off because of her birthday so I just unexpectedly dropped by her apartment to give her a quick surprise. I think she was touched by the thought. And for today, March 19th - I had the day off since I have to work this weekend - I went to my parent's house to see if they needed anything and to write out their bills. I was about to leave when I realized it was a wonderful warm day and I had been thinking of taking them to our church fish fry some Friday during Lent. So instead of heading back to my chore/errand list, I decided to take them out to lunch instead and spend a few more hours with them. I know they appreciated the chance to go out, and I did enjoy spending more time with them. It felt really good to actually do something I've been thinking about for a while, but had just never got around to doing!
Hello again- here's my update for March 16- I actually ended up doing 2 little things- I donated some money to a co-worker's daughter who is doing a Walk to Remember and their middle school. A friend of hers, who I believe was 12 or 13 at the time, was killed by a drunk driver, so they are raising money for MADD as a class project. I also tried to call a friend I haven't talked to in a while- the last time we chatted her stepmother was ill and I know she's been quite busy and could use cheering up. For today, March 17- I delivered some little treat bags to the Meals on Wheels for my sister. She always makes cute little bags for the holidays so the Meals on Wheels people don't feel forgotten - she takes a lot of time doing it, I am just the courier who gets them to right place. She is very thoughtful of the elderly and I'm just the helper, but it still feels good knowing they'll get a nice surprise with their hot lunch today!
Good morning everyone! I just had a chance to update before I go off to work - so here it goes! For March 15 - I called a friend who is having dating issues. I am fortunate to have a wonderful husband of 26 years, so it is hard for me to relate to middle-aged dating, and I certainly would not want to be out there in the dating world now. It is a shame that people can't at least be honest in their relationships- it seems like my friend tends to get "strung along" until somebody better comes along. Anyway, we had a great conversation, and I tried to reassure them that they are a great person, and a great friend! So now I'm off to work and I'm going to try for a real good uplifter for somebody today!
Hello again- I don't know if anybody else is really reading these, but, boy does it make me feel good to realize that I can make a difference if I give it just a little effort every day. I have trouble getting to type this in, but I am doing something every day! So here it goes! Wednesday, March 10- I had a long day at work, so I just did the healthy snack thing again- this time it was Chocolate drizzled Rice Cakes- one co-worker called them "chocolate-covered styrofoam" but the rest of the crew seemed to enjoy them! Thursday, March 11 - I took some time after my spinning class ( still my favorite exercise) at the gym to thank the instructor and let her know how much she inspires me! I know we all just assume people are just doing their jobs, but everyone likes to be appreciated once in a while. Friday- March 12 - everyone tends to be in a good mood at work on Fridays, imagine that, so I just tried to start a great discussion about what everybody's plans were- everybody tends to smile more when they have something to look forward to! Saturday - March 13 - I sent out a St. Patrick's day card to a friend- even though they're not Irish I know everybody likes some mail that's not junk mail or a bill! March 14- is today! Today there was a new woman in our spinning class who was really struggling to get through the hour- she reminded me of myself when I first went to class and I was clueless and very afraid of falling off the bike or something. After class I stopped to ask her what she thought and to tell her we'd see her again, and how before long if she stuck with it she would become addicted to it like the rest of us! That's it for today- I just wanted to make 1 quick comment- it amazes me how simple and easy and quick so many of these things are- and how much they could mean to somebody else. We all are busy, and nobody has time for anything these days, but less than a minute for you could make a world of difference to someone else!
Although I'm behind in typing these in, I've been making a real effort to do something daily, even if it's only little, to make somebody smile - it's a great feeling and it can be very contagious. So here they are: March 4- I wrote a quick note to a friend- a real note to fill their mailbox to say hi and make their day! March 5- Fridays are usually pretty uplifting at work - I try to keep things on the healthy side to inspire everyone because I know what a difference good nutrition makes for me- so instead of buying candy or cookies to share, we had APPLE DAY - a big bag of apples so everybody could have a great snack. (Some people don't participate - but most appreciate a great, good-for-you snack!) March 6 -I called a friend to let them know I was thinking of them and to just say hi, no other reason. It felt good to just connect on a real level. March 7 - I took care of my dog on Sunday- I'm going to say that dogs count, too! After a long Pittsburgh winter, she was thrilled to go to the park again. Her excitement is contagious, and it's a healthy thing for me to do for myself, too! March 8 - since Mondays are always a challenge for everybody going back to work, I made a real effort to be in a positive mood and spent a little time just listening to what everybody did over the weekend- sometimes people just want somebody to listen to them! March 9 - A co-worker had to call off (intestinal virus thing, yuk) and I took the time to talk to her and joke with her so she wouldn't think we were upset with her calling off - in the past I would have said "OK" and gotten off the phone quick, but instead I took the time to hear the story and joke about how she seems to get every sickness there is, even though she's a clean fanatic! Haven't done anything notable yet today, but I'll try to keep you posted - I like making that real effort every day - it makes me smile myself!
March 1 - I took the time to really talk to my husband and tell him how much I loved him, and how much I appreciate everything he does for me- I truly am a very spoiled wife! March 2 - I called my sister and listened to her problems, and tried to lighten her mood (they've had tons of mountain snow, and she's tired of getting snowed in! March 3 - After spinnning class at the gym (my favorite exercise!) I took the time to chat with a woman I've seen there before- she doesn't talk much- just to say hi.
I entered the spryliving contest for dream it, do it. My goal was to try to inspire positive attitudes in those around me and to experience that joy myself. To achieve that goal, I will do at least one thing daily and keep track on here, so that at the end of the year, I can look back and see my accomplishments! It is sometimes hard to find the time to do this daily, so several days may be entered at one time. So here it goes:
